Lone Star Book Flood
In response to the escalating wave of book bans sweeping across the United States, For the Love of Reading, a nonprofit organization formerly known as 1001 Diverse Books, Inc., is proud to announce the launch of its second campaign, The Lone Star Bookflood, a decisive action to amplify diverse voices for the children of Texas.
The Lone Star Bookflood is an ambitious project aimed at providing diverse picture books and middle-grade books to nominated schools and libraries throughout Texas. The nonprofit's curated selection of books, aptly named the "Celebrate Every Voice (Truly) Book Bundle," features titles from acclaimed small publishers like Little Bee Books and Barefoot Books, catering to both elementary and middle school readers. Notable titles in this bundle include "How to Find Aloha," "Molly's Tuxedo," "Making Happy," "How to Find What You're Not Looking For," and "Nikhil Out Loud."
With a vision to distribute 100 "Celebrate Every Voice (Truly) Book Bundles" across the vast state of Texas, the dedicated team at For the Love of Reading invites the public to actively participate in two significant ways. Firstly, the organization seeks community support to nominate schools and libraries in Texas that would benefit from an infusion of diverse books in their classrooms and libraries. Secondly, the nonprofit invites individuals and businesses to sponsor these book bundles for $50 each, contributing to the nonprofit’s ambitious goal of sending out 100 "Celebrate Every Voice (Truly) Book Bundles" in the Lone Star State by the end of 2023.
Founder and CEO of For the Love of Reading, Sailaja N. Joshi, passionately articulates the organization's mission: "Our vision is simple—to provide a voice and a beacon of diversity, allowing all children to see themselves reflected in the books they read. Difference is beautiful, and awareness is the first step towards fostering understanding. Now is the time to embrace, not silence different voices.”
For the Love of Reading is committed to bridging the diversity and accessibility gap in children's literature through its impactful partnerships with hyper-local literacy nonprofits. Since its inception, this dedicated nonprofit has collaborated with ten literacy organizations across five different cities, distributing over 2,000 diverse books to promote inclusivity and representation in children's reading material.
The Lone Star Book Flood is set to commence on November 17th and will run until November 27th, with book bundles scheduled for shipping to schools and libraries in the first week of December.
